Buy a Zune at Walmart…Soon

Picture%203.jpg

Walmart has started promoting Zunes in their online store. Why is this so disturbing to us? Walmart has already defiled iPods and all sorts of other PMPs. Is it that we wanted something better for our new baby? Is it that Walmart and Microsoft together is the scariest wetdream ever to even the Gordoniest of Gekkos? Does this sit poorly in anyone else’s tummy out there?
Thanks Ben!

Talking Urinal, Let the Insults Fly
Permission to rant, please. Who designs these plastic things that fit inside urinals, women? Why not use a fine stainless steel mesh (lifted off the surface) that actually absorbs the stream. These #@%&* things cause the pee to ricochet in every direction.
And there's more… Don't design urinals that have corners or flat surfaces. They should be round in the interior. And why not design a urinal that's small, unobtrusive, and classy enough for the home? Think of the water savings, the cleanliness, the seat staying in one position. Cleanliness, because the pee hitting stationary water from a few feet above causes a lot of splash, enough to feel on your legs when you wear shorts.
(My excuse for the careful thought on the subject is a background in precision fountains. And thanks for letting me rant.)

Magnetic Floating Bed: Oh. Your. God.
what’s all this crap about the poles reversing and ending up on the ceiling? The bed floats by being repelled from the floor. The poles reversing would mean it would be attracted to the floor. Unless the magical pole-reversal fairies come in the night and move all the magnets in the floor to the ceiling.

Speculation: Talking iPod Forthcoming?
hmm. i’d still rather have WiFi than listen to Kiefer Sutherland breathily announce that i’m about to hear Kajagoogoo’s hit “Too Shy”.

it needs to be built in to the song counting thing so it can comment on how many times you’ve listened to it as well.

My PC Is On Fire – Dell Laptop Inspired Video
Well, looking into my Crystal Ball of Awesomeness and Spendour (availible at most drug stores, corner stores and shops of Alchemy), I see that this video was not, in fact, original, but is part of the movie “Elephant’s Dream by the Orange Open Movie Product. See www.elephantsdream.org.
All else aside, I too was very impressed by the video, and am contemplaing seeing the rest of this movie. The setting of the song to the video was very well done, and the song itself is very nice. Very much like a Weird Al song. I hope he keeps it up…

Sennheiser PC155 USB PC Skype Headset Hands-On
Got a set of these today as well. We are trying out a number of these headsets for our company and this is the best so far (the Logitech 350 was reviewed as “so uncomfortable it made me want to kill myself” by one of our folks today).
I agree that the sound is a little bit bass-heavy and doesn’t have the sweet neutrality of Sennheiser’s other cans, but overall I’m pretty pleased with both music and call quality. Skype’s pause and fade-in with iTunes makes these really easy to keep on all day, and I think the lack of total ear coverage actually makes it easier to wear these all day in a warmer office. We’ll be keeping them.
Now, if Polycom would just release Mac software for their Communicator, we could dump our landlines entirely….
by hoss

Sidekick 3: The Good, Bad and Ugly
I agree that the battery life is abysmal, and I’ve also had trouble with the screen catching. I’ve started doing a little downward wrist flick when I open the screen to keep it from catching and not opening all the way.
Nobody seems to have mentioned that the keyboard is a lot nicer than the old one. I couldn’t type very fast on the old rubber KB, and the glue was defective so I had to crazy glue it into place a couple times, no fun. I can type much faster on the new one, and I doubt there will be the defective glue/peeling keyboard issues of the old sidekicks.
Internet and general interaction is a lot faster. 10 Pin actually responds to my actions immediately, I’ve had to retrain myself not to correct for lag in response time. Now if they could just get the rest of the games I liked upgraded . . .

Eureka Contest Update

If you recall we have a contest running with a video iPod up for grabs. This contest is sponsored by SCI FI and their new original series, Eureka. Still interested? You better be. Here is what you have to do to win the 60 GB video iPod.

You need to create and design an original invention and include some kind of a sketch or mock-up with a full explanation of what the gadget does. Hit up the link here to get an idea of what the citizens of Eureka have been brewing up. Once you have the entire mock-up and description done, shoot it over to gizmodobox@gmail.com with MADE IN EUREKA in the subject line. The usual Gawker Contest Rules apply.

Remember, the contest ends next Tuesday, July 18, which also happens to be the day Eureka premiers on the SCI FI channel. Get the full scoop on the contest here. I couldn’t help but giggle at David R.’s entry. Keep up the good work, folks.

Made in Eureka Invention Contest, Win an iPod Video!

eureka.JPGContest time again! Who's excited? Yes you are, yes you are! Made in Eureka is a show premiering on the Sci-Fi channel next Tuesday, July 18. I'll let them explain the show.

Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, Eureka is a seemingly ordinary town whose residents lead ordinary lives ... at least to the naked eye. Shrouded in secrecy, the picturesque hamlet is actually a community of scientific geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research.

So here is the deal. You are going to go head to head with the citizens of Eureka by creating an invention that will revolutionize the world. Here is what is up for grabs: a brand spankin' new 60GB iPod video courtesy of the Made in Eureka folks. Contest ends next Tuesday, July 18, so get brainstorming! The usual Gawker Contest Rules apply.

The fun doesn't end there. Sci-Fi is also having a similar contest with a Sony HDTV and Blu-Ray player up for grabs. So head over here to enter the Sci-Fi Eureka contest and tune in to Made in Eureka next Tuesday on Sci-Fi.

Citibank Releases RFID Credit Cards
You know, you can rely on two things if you want to read these cards. One, is that males would have it either in their pocket, ,or in their wallet, and two, lineups and other chokepoints during shopping result in people bumping each other.

Think about it next time you're outside and someone bumps into you - they could have a hidden RFID reader at the right spot, and the bump was to get an excuse to get physically close within reading range. And if it didn't scan this time, well, try on the next person. (Such chokepoints are lineups to checkout and escalators - so you might want to really stand on one side to avoid people squeezing through you).

The "bump" tactic is popular amongst pickpockets today, now they can pick your pocket without you knowing!

Waterproof, Paintproof, Bloodproof Condoms For Your Cellphone
So...if you're in the heat of passion, you slip it off your blackberry and onto your unit. Right. Because every woman wants a cock covered in pocket lint and finger/face oil shoved inside of her.

Asus R2H Beats FCC Level, Onto Final Boss
bah to those nay sayers of UMPC's. while this one doesn't look as hot as Sonys, it still has a cool neat things going for it. Wireless, bluetooth, GPS (sweeeet), ethernet (great for my network testing needs), all rock. What I thought was really cool was the fingerprint scanner - not just cause it's a fingerprint scanner, but it says int he manual that it can also be used as a scroller! Now, just install a slide out keyboard, bring down the price and we are good 2 go!
