Mitsubishi’s people-sensing air conditioners

Filed under: AirConditioner,ZwSeries,air conditioner,mitsubishi,zw series — Donald Melanson @ 4:13 am

Filed under:

Mitsubishi’s out to make your rooms cooler and slightly creepier with its new air conditioner units, packing an all-seeing infrared eye that’ll adjust the temperature based on people’s locations in the room. Seven models in the company’s new ZW series will come equipped with the technology, which divides the room up into a number of sections to scan for humans, directing the air-flow appropriately and switching to economic mode to conserve power when it’s left all by its lonesome. What’s more, the AC can apparently even analyze a person’s or family’s seating habits over a couple of weeks which, for some of us, shouldn’t be too hard to determine. No word on prices for any of the units yet, but they should start collecting aggregate data about your in-home lifestyle in Japan by mid December.

Mitsubishi’s first 1,080p projector, the LVP-HC5000

Runco, obviously, is already in the game. So are Sony, Sharp, Marantz, JVC, and even a little outfit called projectiondesign. But when it comes to 1,080p front projectors, we’ve been wanting to call up Mitsubishi on our Boost Mobile phone and ask them “Where you at?” Well the venerable rear-projection TV manufacturer has apparently been biding its time in order to release its first full HD unit, but the pricetag on this 3LCD model may convince you that it was worth the wait, as the LVP-HC5000 will cost “just” 450,000 yen (about $3,890) when it hits Japanese shores on October 12th. Even at this bargain basement price, you’re still getting a very respectable set of specs, most notably a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (though static is a mere 2,000:1), 1,000 nits of blinding brightness, as well as a full complement of inputs including HDMI, DVI-I, component, composite, S-Video, and even D-sub. Yeah, this all sounds like a pretty good deal; now we’re just hoping that they’ll ship this puppy overseas and help us finally purge that embarrassing 27-inch CRT from our otherwise kick-ass home theater setup.

Mitsubishi’s Symbian-powered D702iBCL for NTT DoCoMo

Filed under: D702iBCL,NTT DoCoMo,NttDocomo,candybar,foma,mitsubishi,ntt,smartphone,symbian — Chris Ziegler @ 8:00 am

Fashion phones not your cup of tea? Looking for something a little more business oriented perhaps? NTT DoCoMo has you covered with their D702iBCL FOMA smartphone, brought to you by the good folks at Mitsubishi. The D702iBCL sports NTT’s MOAP (Moblie Oriented Applications Platform) UI sitting atop Symbian 8.1 along with a QVGA display, all while coming in at a relatively sprightly 130 x 47 x 16.8mm and 97g. A camera is conspicuously missing, but being that this is a business phone, that’s just as well.

NTT DoCoMo adds six to endless array of FOMA choices

NTT DoCoMo – in an apparent bid to not just out-do, but humiliate the rest of the world’s carriers – has dropped yet another six 3G flips on its home crowd.  The new handsets are part of NTT’s “7 Series” of fashion-oriented phones, and include entries from Mitsubishi, Panasonic, NEC, Motorola, and Sharp. Moto has actually contributed two models here, one in the V3x vein and the other apparently a let’s-see-how-long-we-can-milk-this port of the original V3. All six of the phones support the typical i-mode goodness, FOMA, video calling, and an array of functions that sound like science fiction to the non-Japanese among us.

Mitsubishi’s PK-20 PocketProjector

Filed under: PocketProjector,Presentation,dlp,mitsubishi,pk-20,pocket projector,projector — Stan Horaczek @ 3:45 pm

It has been a good couple of weeks for projector enthusiasts - there has to be at least one of you out there - and now Mitsubishi is making it even better with an upgrade to their PocketProjector line. With a 550:1 contrast ratio and a native resolution of 800 x 600, the PK-20 still isn't a great choice for someone looking to make their own home theater, even with the new built-in SD card reader. But its small size, optional battery pack ($199) and weight of only one-pound should make it attractive to the well-traveled business man with expense accounts that'll cover the $899 price tag.

Mitsubishi’s new 21-inch RDT212H monitor for Japan

Filed under:

Mitsubishi has just announced a new 21.3-inch flat panel monitor for the Japanese market, and even though it offers two DVI ports and a UXGA resolution of 1,600 x 1,200, we're not sure how many folks will be willing to part with close to ¥200,000 (about $1,775 US) to have this model on their desks. The RDT212H, in silver or black, does offer a pretty nice 1000:1 contrast ratio, but the 16-millisecond response time won't impress any gamers, and the 300cd/m2 brightness is nothing special, so we're struggling to discover what those hundreds of thousands of yen are really buying you. We'll have to wait a few weeks to find out, though, as that's when this LCD is scheduled to hit stores -- stay tuned to Engadget Japan for the latest.

Mitsubishi’s Diamondcrysta 17 and 19-inch monitors

Filed under:

Mitsubishi's got some new heads in Japan today. More or less run of the mill 4:3 aspect ratio heads, but the four Diamondcrysta 17-inch (RDT1713S, RDT1713V) and 19-inchers (RDT197S, RDT197V) do have an impressive pixel response as fast as 2ms, 300 and 400cd/m2 brightness (depending on the model), 1000:1 contrast ratio, and DVI. No stated price or intention to export, but when it comes to monitors like these, you've already got plenty of options on the market.

Mitsubishi launches slew of new LCD and DLP HDTVs

Filed under: 73-inch,HDTV,cablecard,display,dlp,hdmi,lcd,mitsubishi — Paul Miller @ 12:12 pm

Looks like Mitsubishi has been pretty busy lately, since they've just announced eleven new LCD and DLP HDTVs, with all but two of them sporting 1080p resolutions. The crowd of displays is headlined by a pair of 73-inch DLP sets, which both feature a host of marketing speak from Mitsubishi like Tru1080p (don't worry, it's 1080p for reals), TurboLight 180 (which claims to boost brightness by 10%), and the fairly meaningless NetCommand and ClearThought which manage connectivity. The WD-73732 and WD-73831 both include dual HDMI inputs, along with a FireWire port, CableCARD slot, and multi-format card readers. Rounding out the DLP displays are 52, 57 and 65-inch 1080p displays, which feature a new 6-Primary Color System that mixes cyan, magenta and yellow in with the usual RGB in order to create a supposedly brighter and more color accurate picture. Mitsubishi has some love for their LCD line as well, with two 37-inch (LT-37131 and LT-37132) and two 46-inch 1080p displays (LT-46131 and LT-46231), featuring similar connectivity to the DLP line but replacing CableCARD with DVI-I. Finally, we have the 52-inch and 62-inch 1280 x 720p LCDs, the WD-52531 and WD-62531, which claim 20 percent more brightness than last year's models, along with dual HDMI ports and Push720p tech to take care of analog and 1080i signals. Until we get a good pic of these, we're picturing Mitsubishi's laz0r projection set that they still have in the works. No word on pricing or availability for any of the models.
