Zune oddnesses: Zune pretty in pink; Zune on a Mac

Filed under: LimitedEdition, limited edition, mac, microsoft, pink, zune — Ryan Block @ 2:15 am

So as we understand it, apparently Microsoft secretly slipped 100 hot pink (or shall we say, magenta?) Zunes into the retail market for purchase, where only especially eagle-eyed buyers would notice what they were getting before taking it home and opening up their rather eye-catching player. (For lawsuit’s sake, it’s in the fine print on the bottom of the box.) Supposedly there’s another 100 pink Zunes that were given out to the Zune team, but we doubt those will be up on eBay any time soon, as is at least one of the pinks. Kind of a bummer though for that dude. You get what you thought was going to be your white (or brown or black) Zune home just to find out you’ve got a limited edition — great, except that of all the colors to surprise a user with, statistically speaking pink might be the worst selection.

Oh yeah, and in other news somebody hacked XNJB — the Mac app that makes use of select Windows-centric portable media devices — to at least partially rock out Zune style (which so far as we know uses a variant of MTP, kind of like how it also appears to use a variant of PlaysForSure). Hot diggity, pink Zune on a Mac, can you get any more esoteric?

The pink PS2 hits UK in November

Filed under: PlayStation 2, Playstation2, PriceCut, Sony, pink, price cut, ps2 — Ryan Block @ 1:27 pm

Filed under:

It’s a little late in the game for you to have to justify a PS2 to your ladyfriend, and it’s way late in the game if your ladyfriend is of the ilk to want a PS2 of her very own. That said, as we all know well from Motorola and their best-selling RAZR, when you’re late getting your new product out the door, the thing to do is release the old product in a new color. Enter the pink PS2. We’re not yet entirely sure when (or if) it’s hitting US shores, but it’s launching on the 8th of November over in Old Blighty. Oh, and for our gamer pals across the pond: thanks to the Leipzig Games Convention, which kicked off today, you’ll see a dip in price of that PS2 as well. It’ll only set you back £94.99 and €129.99 now, which doesn’t help us over in the States too much, but we can’t complain as our PlayStation 2s still cost significantly less.

Intempo Buddy Pink GPS

Filed under: GPS, Gadgets, buddy, intempo, pink — Gizmodo @ 10:45 am

pinkgps.jpgI still don’t understand the whole “pink gadgets for ladies” fad that seems to be lingering around. Ladies, are pink gadgets really that more appealing than the traditional black/gray gadgets? Intempo has released the Buddy. It is a pink GPS unit that includes flower and butterfly designs. It is a really basic GPS: 3.5-inch touch screen car charger, remote control and can help you get from point A to point B—easy enough. At $426 dollars, wouldn’t you be better off picking up a lower end Garmin or Tom Tom? Those are quality GPS devices, even the lower end models.

Qwest and Sanyo go pink to benefit breast cancer foundation

Filed under: 3100, Sanyo, pink, qwest — Donald Melanson @ 11:29 pm

Qwest and Sanyo have announced a stylin' -- and more importantly, tasteful -- "Always Pink" rendition of Sanyo's SCP-3100 to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Qwest is committing up to $100,000 of phone sales to the foundation from now through October 31 in support of research and community outreach programs. For what it's worth, the low-end SCP-3100's specs mirror those of its, uh, less pink siblings: 160 x 128 color internal and 96 x 32 monochrome external display, VGA camera, speakerphone, and a promised talk time of up to 3.6 hours. Throwing your support behind breast cancer research and awareness will run you $50 with a 2-year contract; if the 3100 doesn't excite you, two additional as-yet-unannounced models (presumably clad in pink) are promised in the series later this summer. Or, you know, you could always choose more traditional (and direct) means of charitable donation.

Pink SLVR L7 available through Cingular

Filed under: Bluetooth, VgaCamera, bling, cameraphone, cingular, edge, iTunes, l7, microsd, moto, motorola, pink, slvr, vga camera — Evan Blass @ 1:54 pm

While not quite as hot as the $75,000 diamond-encrusted version, Cingular new pink SLVR L7 will surely find a market among the hoards of people that seem addicted to devices in that most feminine of colors. Even though its sporting a different shade, this model has the exact same features as the black L7 — iTunes, Bluetooth, EDGE, MicroSD, and a VGA cam — and costs the same too, priced at $199 with a two-year service agreement and pledge of eternal loyalty to Cingular/AT&T Wireless.

Nokia N72 launched

Filed under: MultimediaComputer, MusicPhone, cellphone, multimedia computer, music, pink, symbian — Thomas Ricker @ 2:00 am

Filed under:

Along with the N93 and N73, Nokia just launched their new N72 multimedia tri-band GSM/EDGE cellphone. This Symbian S60 handset features a 2.1-inch, 176 x 208, 262k color display, Bluetooth 2.0, and 20MB internal memory expandable via SD memory cards. Media support includes a digital music player with dedicated music keys supporting MP3 and AAC playback, an FM Radio with Visual Radio support, and throws in a swivel-activated 2 megapixel shooter with integrated flash capable of CIF video capture at 15fps. Nokia is positioning this pup as a "multimedia computer" which is a bit of a stretch, but we'll play a long, for now. Expected in Pearl Pink or Gloss Black sometime in June 2006. More pics on the flip.

Pink Chocolate? LG says yes

Filed under: PinkChocolate, chocolate, lg, lg-sv590, pink, pink chocolate, qvga — Paul Miller @ 7:59 am

LG has
thoroughly trashed their black and href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/02/28/white-chocolate-phone-from-lg/">white "chocolate" metaphor
with their new pink LG Chocolate, the LG-SV590. With 350,000 of the slim-slider Chocolate phones sold so far, it’s hard
to fault LG for releasing the phone in a new color, but we were kind of digging the whole edible motif. No matter, the
phone still has its 2-inch QVGA screen, 512MB of memory, and LG even has a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/03/22/lgs-chocolate-phone-coming-to-the-us/">US version in the works.
