Canon PowerShot G7 unboxed and put to use

Curious to see what Canon’s new PowerShot G7 looks like when taken out from under the ever-loving gaze of meticulous press photos? Well, thanks to another eager Flickr user, you can get some vicarious hands-on kicks and an idea of how it performs to boot. The unboxing pics give a good look at the front and back of the cam, with the box shot revealing Canon’s generous choice of SD card in the bundle — really, who needs more than 32MB with a 10 megapixel camera? Also up for your perusal are a selection of sample pics taken with the G7, showing off the camera’s performance at various settings and our photographer friend’s excessively geeky but sadly familiar book collection. Check the link below for all the goodies.

[Thanks, Matthew H.]

Sony mylo spotted in stores, online

Filed under: 5th ave,5thAve,NewYork,Sony,mylo,new york,pics,unboxing — Cyrus Farivar @ 11:35 am

A kind employee reports that the CompUSA in Clearwater, Florida is stocking the $350 Sony mylo (only in black, apparently), and he’s got a set of pics to prove it. The store’s SKU spotted in the photographs assures us that these are the real McCoy indeed, and not just some pre-production model. Of course, just because mylos have been sighted in one CompUSA (and on various online retailers, including Amazon and SonyStyle.com) doesn’t mean they’re necessarily available everywhere yet — so as always, your mileage may vary. That said, be sure to click through for one more mylo close-up before we send you on your merry way to your local gadgeteria.

[Thanks, Dan the Man]

Raon Digital’s Vega UMPC unboxing / impressions

Filed under: Raon Digital,RaonDigital, impressions, umpc, unboxing, vega — Darren Murph @ 2:32 am

While a full-on review of a finalized unit has yet to surface, the folks over at CarryPad have withstood the lengthy customs holdup to give a once over to the oh-so-small Raon Digital Vega UMPC. Rocking a footprint and screen smaller than the already tiny OQO and Sony UX, those lucky testers were taken aback at just how minuscule this thing really is. They admired the sleek, black styling, and praised the LCD quality, but felt the maximum resolution of 1,024 x 768 was too microscopic for actual use, and found the native 800 x 480 option much more pleasing on the eyes. Windows responsiveness wasn’t blistering, but did exceed their expectations, and ran several basic applications without putting too much strain on the 256MB of RAM; two other nifty features were its ability to boot into Linux successfully, and be accessed as USB storage when off or in standby. Possibly the most satisfying report comes from the battery life — while not quite matching the longevity of the Newton MessagePad, the test unit survived three hours of active use, a few hours of standby, and still showed 20% of juice remaining. The biggest digs (and potential deal killers), however, are its apparent lack of WiFi without the style-hindering USB attachment, and the perplexing decision to omit Bluetooth entirely. While there are certainly areas of concern, CarryPad felt the Vega UMPC was “more impressive” than expected, especially in areas of size and battery life — but if your plans involve heavy internet surfing or pairing it with the endless amount of Bluetooth possibilities, you may want to hold off.

You didn’t think we’d leave you without some accompanying videos, now do you? Dave shot some sweet videos of unboxing the new TiVo Series3, the new TiVo bootup sequence, and going through all the new high def video modes. Definitely a must see for TiVo fans whose staid boxes have changed very little in the past few years. Enjoy!

Unboxing the new Mighty Mouse

While we’re certainly not rushing out to snatch up Apple’s new Wireless Mighty Mouse, the heavy response to this Bluetooth-equipped rodent makes us think that a lot of you Macheads out there are eager to learn more before laying down your $70. With that in mind, we figured a full gallery of unboxing photos would be just the cure for your Mighty Mouse jones. Keep on reading for a few more pics — including a comparative shot with the wired version (spoiler: they look exactly alike, save for the “tail”) — and then hit up the Read link to check out the entire set…

Unboxing the Nike+iPod Sport Kit

Now that you can actually go out and purchase a Nike+iPod Sport Kit, you're probably wondering what exactly it is that you're getting with this package, so iLounge was kind enough to snap some photos of the unboxing process and post a few screenshots of the new menu options that will show up on your nano. Feature-wise, there's really nothing here that we didn't know already, though we did learn some more details about the kit's integration with the Nikeplus website -- besides tracking your workout statistics and long-term progress, you can also compare your performance with runners much better than yourself, providing you with an incentive to either work harder or try your hand at another sport. Also worth noting is the fact that the kit will definitely not work with any iPod other than the nano, and your device must sport the latest firmware in order to recognize the adapter. Keep reading to scope out a few of the menu screens, head over to iLounge for the full rundown, and stay tuned for a roundup as reviews start trickling out...

Unboxing the Sony Vaio UX50

The unboxing ritual is an storied art form, passed from one generation of nerd to another. Some think the practice began among the ancient Ap’heelfanboi tribes, but today the practice of carefully documenting the mundane act of opening a box with a gadget inside has spread across all of geekdom. However, rarely have we seen the art taken to such heights as with Micro PC Talk’s unboxing of the Sony Vaio UX50. Not only are there 187 pictures in total, but 25 of those are before the UX box is even breached. The soundtrack is also quite the touch, and we almost teared up when the chubby little device was brought from its polyethylene foam. Micro PC talk, you have done our ancestors proud.

Unpacking the Treo 700p

We got more package porn here for ya today, though this time it isn't our own. Engadget Mobile reader and self-proclaimed Gadget Guru Andy Pargh hooked us up with some shots he snapped of him tearing open his box to reveal the sweet, sweet treasure within -- the 700p. Looks like Sprint didn't get the last laugh after all -- unless some of you already have a Sprint 700p and have been holding out on us. Don't hold out on us, people!
